Treasure Hunt For Nature Conservation
August 2022: The Mossel Bay Treasure Hunt!
Nature Conservation Should Be Fun: To Promote Our Wild Flower Garden Project In The Namaqualand Sandveld
We Sponsored The Cannonball Run Treasure Hunt In Mossel Bay
As part of our mission to raise awareness about nature conservation in the Namaqualand Sandveld region the Friend of Namaqualand [namaqualand.org.za] co-sponsor this special Treasure Hunt Games where participants learn more about nature conservation in Namaqualand and our Wild Flower Garden project.
In this treasure hunt event teams search the town to complete a special collection of images cards by using “a treasure map & riddles” to solve the puzzle. When completed this card collection tells the story of Na-Koi-Ja-Ma Island in the Namaqualand Sandveld Desert.
The winner receives a nice prize.
Why are we doing this?
This special treasure hunt game was developed by our own in-house team during the 2020/21 Covid-19 pandemic.
The idea back then was to launch this fun family game in small towns and cities around the country when the Covid rules once again allowed public gatherings.
AT LAST: On September the 3rd, 2022 will be the first time that we will get the opportunity to roll this out, play the treasure hunt game and promote our conservation message in a fun and exciting way.
On this day there will be 52 participants (4-groups) in the small coastal town of Mossel Bay, competing for the First Prize.
A number of local businesses in town also co-sponsored this treasure hunt and make their business premises available as secret pick-up points where participants must find new clues and new cards for their collection.
This is how the Treasure Hunt work:
Staring Point [The Alpha Point]: [Organizers – The Vastrap 4×4 Club]
Each Participant (Team/Car) Receives:
A special folder in the form of a card display holder
- A specially design treasure map, folder, Morse code, etc.
- Hunters clue and ID Cards with hidden clues and riddles to find the different pick-up points,
- Participation cards, other information, rules and more.
Teams must find specially designed image cards around town that needs to be collected from secret pick-up points – managed by local business owners.
These images cards must then be inserted into a display folder. The display folder together with the images cards tells a story.
Participants are given riddles and other clues that gives directions to the secret pick-up points around town.
Participants will be asked to perform small tasked at certain pick-up points in return for more clues to find all the pick-up points and collect all the image cards.
When all image cards are successfully collected participants go to the last point – or “Zulu Point”- where they will be required to show their complete card collection and answer a few questions to qualify for a place or a win in the game.
From the Zulu Point teams drive (move) to the entertainment venue where there will be one last riddle to solve before the “after party” begins with a live music, a bring & braai, followed by the announcement of the winners, lucky draws and other fun prizes. All-in-all this is a fantastic family even.
